Council of Canadians to challenge Canada’s position at UN advisory committee
Anil Naidoo of the Council of Canadians’ Blue Planet Project will be in Berlin next week at the invitation of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to serve on an expert panel advising her on human rights obligations related to water. This process will culminate in a UN report, which is expected to further isolate Canada as the only state to officially oppose the right to water.

As project organizer for Council of Canadians’ Blue Planet Project, Anil Naidoo has played a leading role in coordinating the global water justice movement comprised of social justice groups and civil society organizations from around the world. He is the only Canadian on Louise Arbour’s advisory panel on water and sanitation.

Le Conseil des Canadiens contestera la position du Canada au comité consultatif de l’ONU
Anil Naidoo du Projet Planète bleue du Conseil des Canadiens sera à Berlin la semaine prochaine, en réponse à l’invitation de la haut commissaire des Nations Unies pour les droits, qui désirait qu’il fasse partie d’une table d’experts chargés d’informer la haut commissaire des obligations en matière de droits de l’homme qui ont trait à l’eau. Le point culminant de ce processus sera un rapport de l’Organisation des Nations Unies, qui devrait isoler encore plus le Canada dans sa position d’opposant officiel au droit à l’eau.

À titre d’organisateur du Projet Planète bleue du Conseil des Canadiens, Anil Naidoo a joué un rôle de chef de file dans la coordination du mouvement mondial de justice en matière d’eau, constitué de groupes de justice sociale et d’organismes de la société civile de partout au monde. Il est le seul Canadien membre du comité consultatif de Louise Arbour sur l’eau et l’assainissement.
